Is Uber available in Istanbul?

The app was first introduced in Turkey in 2014. Not only tourists but also citizens of Turkey were using it, people started to prefer Uber vehicles than cabs, and it caused some tension among the local taxi drivers and taxi companies.

Consequently, in March 2019, Turkey’s United Taxi Drivers Association opened a lawsuit against Uber, and finally, on October 15, 2019, the Turkish court determined to block access to Uber’s application to offer transportation services.

The founders of the application called on the Court of Appeals, claiming that from now on the app wants to continue operations with the yellow and turquoise taxis of Istanbul.

Finally, the Court of Appeals in Turkey decided that Uber’s application could indeed resume operations only with regular taxis. Uber has re-launched its services in Turkey in 2021, but just with regular taxis and has announced that large vehicles will restarts service on Turkey.

In the previous weeks, Uber Turkey announced that large vehicles have started to serve again by the name of Black Taxi. In this way the passengers up to 8 people will be able to hail them and transport easily.

How to Pay on Uber Application? Does Uber in Turkey Accept Credit cards?

Uber app charges payment for the trip you will take. Before requesting a ride, you’ll be asked to add a payment method of your choice to your account, thus, when a trip ends, your preferred payment method will be charged. You can pay with credit card or in cash according to your preference.

Furthermore, the application is not directly connected to the taximeter, and therefore the driver manually enters the price of the ride, even though it is not common for the driver to increase the value and try to deceive passengers, still advised to leave the taxi only when the driver enters the value in the app.
