Discover Aphrodisias: Turkey’s Ancient City of Love and History
So, let’s chat about one of Turkey’s best-kept secrets: Aphrodisias. If you’re thinking of travelling to Turkey or even just dreaming about it, this is one place you definitely don’t want to miss. Trust me, you won’t regret it.
Reasons for Visiting Aphrodisias
Firstly, Aphrodisias is reminiscent of ancient times. This ancient city dedicated to the goddess of love (Aphrodite) has been preserved better than any other archeological site in Turkey. You will wander through history with ruins that go back as far as third century BC. Think walking on marble streets, visiting ancient theaters and getting lost among stunning sculptures. It is every history buff’s fantasy.
But you know what? There is something magical in the air here even if you are not a big fan of history. Nature meets ruins at this breathtaking place. Furthermore, it is not nearly as crowded as places like Ephesus meaning that there aren’t millions of tourists cramping your style.
How do I Get There?
Going to Aphrodisias is rather uncomplicated process. From Istanbul, catch a flight to Denizli or Izmir; then from there there’s a little bit road trip involved. At 2 hours drive away if coming from Denizli while from Izmir then expects around 3 hours drives to reach there. If you’re already in the region, say around Pamukkale, it’s even closer – roughly an hour’s drive. Renting a car is probably your best bet since public transportation options are limited, and you’ll want the flexibility to explore at your own pace.
